TAKE-OUT CONTINUES…
WHERE: McDonald’s
WHAT: NYC Benedict Bagel + 2 Hash Browns + Espresso Pronto flat white (LRG)
PRICE: $11.05
Fast food giant McDonald’s wants you to feel better about eating food out of a brown paper bag by suggesting their fare is a cut above the rest - it’s a little bit fancy.
This is, of course, a nonsense. It ain’t fancy whatsoever. If it were, there’d be a saucier out the back whisking melted butter, egg yolks and lemon juice to create the Hollandaise that went into my bagel.
And there was not. Instead, I’m assuming a 15-year-old with limited cooking ability pushed the plunger on a sauce dispenser.

WHERE: Pasta Cup, North Perth
WHAT: 3 Cheese Ravioli Carbonara (Sml) + Garlic Bread
PRICE: $16.90
I don’t know what you have to do to win a Nobel Prize these days, but the person who thought of combining homemade pasta with Styrofoam cups as a takeaway food item deserves one - genius.

TAKE-OUT CONTINUES…
WHERE: Nando’s
WHAT: Lemon and Herb Classic Wrap + Large Chips
PRICE: $13.20
When you see “grilled chicken” on the Nando’s menu, and only grilled chicken, there’s something inside you that writes off whatever you pick as healthy and guilt-free.
Maybe this is why Nando’s has become an institution. Probably not, but if the amount of Nando’s addicts across Australia is anything to go by, you really have to take their word for it and try the Portuguese-style chicken for yourself.

WHERE: Missy Moos Polly Put the Kettle On burger + Chips
PRICE: $15.50
Decoding the nursery rhyme inspired menu is all part of the Missy Moos experience. This kooky, family friendly burger bar caters for everyone; there’s the burger with a fancy twist of blue cheese, the Cow Jumped Over the Moon, or the Jack and the Beanstalk for the vegos among us.
They even do petite versions for those feeling too “delicate” to handle the man-sized burger.

WHERE: Pizza Hut, Innaloo
WHAT: Dinner Box (Large Legends Pepperoni Pizza + Lasagne + Garlic Bread + 4 x Cheese Twist-ups)
PRICE: $19.95
If you’ve ever wondered how many carbs you could stuff in a single box, wonder no more. Pizza, lasagne, garlic bread and doughy things fill the Pizza Hut Dinner Box and it’s a world of hurt for anyone watching their waistline.
But who are we kidding? We’re betting the majority of people ordering this stopped measuring their waistline a long time ago. Probably a wise move.

TAKE-OUT CONTINUES…
WHERE: Delisio, Subiaco
WHAT: 2 x pizza slices (Mushroom Trio + Sausage & Mushroom)
PRICE: $12
There’s nothing remarkable about Delisio on the surface, it could be any other cafe in Subi. But once you squeeze inside, you know you’ve found something special.
It’s literally written on the walls.
Owner Raffaele Brotzu’s awards fill the tiny space; he’s won Best of the Best Pizza Challenge in both WA and Australia. But that’s nothing compared to his title of World’s Best Gourmet Pizza at the International Pizza Expo in 2008.

WHERE: V Burger, East Victoria Park
WHAT: F.B.A (Full Blooded Aussie) burger + Onion rings
PRICE: $17.80
America is the spiritual home of the hamburger and the undisputed champion when it comes to this bastion of fast food. In that country, the measure of a good burger is often the number of napkins (or serviettes as we’d say) you go through in the process of eating one, five being a decent yardstick.
Working my way through the F.B.A from V Burger took four and a half. Respect.

THE SEARCH FOR PERTH’S BEST TAKE-OUT CONTINUES…
WHERE: Jus Burger, Leederville
WHAT: Guvnor burger w/ truffled chicken parfait + Chips + Chocolate milkshake
PRICE: $30.95
A significant aura surrounds Jus Burgers, Leederville. It’s generally credited as one of the forerunners of the gourmet burger movement in WA and was voted the COUNTRY’S best burger in the Lifestyle FOOD Awards in 2010.
That sort of accolade doesn’t come easy so to say there’s a certain expectation when you get a Jus burger is an understatement - and you can double that expectation when you’re hit with a $30 bill for burger, chips and a drink.

THE SEARCH FOR PERTH’S BEST
TAKE-OUT CONTINUES…
WHERE: Ploy Thai, Maylands
WHAT: Red Curry Duck + Pad Chicken with Cashews + Steamed Jasmine Rice
PRICE: $32
Eighth Avenue in Maylands is on the rise. Granted, that rise has been about as rapid as a snail who gets teased by the other snails for being a slow-poke, but it’s a rise nonetheless. Nestled amongst the smattering of chic new cafes is Ploy Thai, a hidden secret locals rave about.

TAKE-OUT CONTINUES…
WHERE: Juancho’s (Station Street Markets, Subiaco)
WHAT: Chicken Tacos + Chicken Quesadillas
PRICE: $19.50
Cheap, good Mexican food should be written into the constitution of this country as an unalienable right for all who live within its borders. Yet it remains elusive. Instead, we get over-priced, Old El Paso-ized offerings, in which authenticity plays second fiddle to melted cheese. Thank goodness, then, for Juancho’s.

WHERE: KFC
WHAT: Zinger Double Burger Combo + Brownie Bites
PRICE: $14.90
The Colonel might have given us 11 secret herbs and spices but even the great Colonel Sanders himself couldn’t conceive a menu item as unholy as the Double burger (known as the Double Down abroad).
